Giving unpaid carers a well-deserved break

We match West Yorkshire’s unpaid carers with quality, complimentary breaks — generously given by businesses that care.

Rewarding dedication. Avoiding burnout.

We work to recognise the estimated 400,000 unpaid carers in our region who quietly give so much — often at great personal cost. These are family members, friends, and neighbours who care for loved ones, without pay and all too often without recognition.

We give them something simple, yet so meaningful — a break. This is only made possible by the kindness of businesses that generously give breaks, experiences, and services that directly benefit a community, where burnout is a constant risk.

A break from the caring routine

From hotels to hairdressers, community-minded organisations across West Yorkshire are already contributing breaks
And for unpaid carers, breaks like these provide a chance to pause and focus on personal well-being and their own mental health — so they can continue caring with renewed energy and a fresh perspective.

How it works

This project is powered by kindness, and contributions can be made as a one-off, ad-hoc or regular gift
1

You gift a break

Socially motivated businesses across the target sectors offer complementary breaks, experiences, and services. Every contribution counts, and we can co-create what a break offer entails.

2

We match the break

The local care organisations, which provide information, advice, and support for unpaid carers, will match an individual with a break that suits their needs, and match opportunities where the need is greatest.

3

You provide a warm welcome

On the date of the booking, the carer will come to your establishment to enjoy a bit of guilt-free 'me time' and experience your warm hospitality like all your other paying customers.

“It is a real pleasure to welcome carers. We have enjoyed meeting some incredible carers with inspiring stories, and knowing that their stay has made a difference is so rewarding to all of us.”

“I miss quality conversations and time with my friends. This may sound odd, but having a really good belly laugh about absolute nonsense.”

“My husband and I are both full-time carers, so we never get to go out together as a couple. We have no family or friends for support; it’s just us and the children we care for.”
