You deserve a break

Caring for someone else often means putting your own needs to one side. Over time, that takes its toll — physically, emotionally, and mentally.

The Caring Kind Project is here to help unpaid carers across West Yorkshire take time out for themselves — to rest and recharge.

Enjoy some time out

We source breaks, experiences and services from generous businesses, so that you can enjoy a break for free. Things like…

  • A spa or wellness session

  • Tickets to a show or event

  • A meal out or afternoon tea

  • Coffee and cake with a friend

  • Or even an overnight stay somewhere special.

If you're one of the 400,000 unpaid carers in West Yorkshire, then yes — this service is for you.

Unpaid carers come from all walks of life — you may be caring for a parent, partner, child, sibling or friend. Whatever your circumstance, if someone depends on you for daily support, you are a carer. You can apply for a break if you...

  • Are over 18 years old
  • Live in West Yorkshire
  • Provide unpaid care to a loved one

How to find a break

1

Submit the contact form

Find your local Delivery Partner below and complete the contact form. Tell us a little about you and your caring role and someone will contact you.

2

Start a conversation

A Carer Support Worker from one of our Deliver Partners will contact you and talk about your caring role, your wellbeing, and the kinds of breaks available. You'll also have access to a wider support package of information, advice, and guidance, as needed.

3

Get matched to a break

Your Carer Support Worker will match you with an available break that fits your needs and circumstances — something just for you.

“Through time and professional support, I’ve realised how important it is to look after yourself in the first instance, which in turn benefits the people you are caring for.”

Yes. All breaks are fully funded or donated by local businesses, and there's no cost to you.

It depends on what’s been donated. Breaks might include hotel stays, meals out, spa sessions, cultural events, or even just a nice lunch at a local cafe. We try to match carers with something that will feel genuinely helpful and enjoyable. We cannot guarantee that your ideal break will be available – we can only pass on what has been donated to the project.

Breaks are offered as part of a wider package of support. Talking to a Carer Support Worker helps make sure that the break fits your needs and that you’re also aware of other help that might be available to you.If you’ve been in contact with the local Delivery Partner previously and you have already received a package of support, you are still eligible for a break. In all circumstances, your request for a break needs to go through the Delivery Partner.

That’s completely understandable. We won’t ask you to share anything you’re not comfortable with. But a short conversation with a Carer Support Worker helps us make sure the break is a good fit for you, and that you’re getting the right support overall. It’s part of how the service works — and it helps us offer breaks in a fair and thoughtful way.

You’ll be given clear instructions and any information you need. We may ask for a short follow-up, just to hear how it went — but that’s optional.

There isn’t a formal waiting list. The project covers a large area and supports many carers, so breaks are offered on a first-come, first-served basis as they become available. Once you’ve had your first conversation with a Carer Support Worker, you’ll be in our system — and if a suitable break isn’t available right away, you can come back to us in the future.
